Nicole DeRonck, Department of Education & Educational Psychology
Dr. Nicole DeRonck is an Assistant Professor of Education and Educational Psychology in the Counselor Education Program. She received her Ph. D. in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology at the University of Connecticut in 2015, where her dissertation won a Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship Award. Dr. DeRonck also received an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University in 2007. Dr. DeRonck completed a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling and a C.A.S in School Counseling from the State University of New York at Albany in 1996 and 1997 respectively. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Gettysburg College in 1995.
Dr. DeRonck has had the privilege of working in the field as a school counselor, district level administrator, and counselor/staff trainer and educator for the 17 years. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and holds Connecticut Certification in both School Counseling (068) and Intermediate Administration (092). As a school counselor and director, Dr. DeRonck’s programs have been recognized for excellence by both the Connecticut School Counselor Association (2010, 2005, and 2001) and by the American School Counseling Association in 2014 as the first and only school in Connecticut to achieve national recognition as an American School Counseling Association Model Program (RAMP).
Dr. DeRonck has been an advocate for her profession at the state and national level. She is active in the Connecticut School Counselor Association (CSCA) and has served as President of in 2010 and was the recipient of the CSCA Service Award in 2013. Dr. DeRonck has worked with the Connecticut State Department of Education on several initiatives including writing and developing the Connecticut SEED Student Educator Support Specialists, Student Success Plans and is currently working with the State Department of Education Task Group to revise the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Model. She is also a consultant for multiple school districts and agencies in Connecticut. Nationally, Dr. DeRonck has served on the Position Statement Committee and was a delegate for Connecticut (2009-14) for the American School Counselor Association. Most recently, she participated in the development and editing of the Ethical Standard for the American School Counselor Association that are being released in 2016. She currently represents WCSU in the Connecticut Consortium for the Reach Higher Initiative.
