 For “Finding Our Way” Summer Experience 2017

For Incoming 7th Graders

Danbury Public Schools and Western Connecticut State University are offering a two-week Summer Learning Experience Program.   “Finding Our Way” is for students going into 7th Grade during the 2017-2018 school year and is designed to provide students with a firm start in recognizing careers in the STEM fields, as well as building a foundation of environmental stewardship and literacy.  The Summer Experience will be held from July 10 to July 21, 2017 and includes 4 Science Saturdays during the school year and parent engagement at events, daily journaling with your child and other exciting opportunities.

Our two-week plan includes:

  • GPS and On-Star
  • Learning about Loggerheads
  • Turtle Adoption and Tracking at Riverhead Foundation, Riverhead NY
  • Meteorology
  • Scents and Chemical Stimuli
  • Biology & Chemistry
  • Water Flow, Soil Percolation and Sustainable Energy
  • Habitat Conservation
  • Visit the NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center
  • Visit to Wallops Island Chincoteague in VA
  • Nature Hikes and Water Testing
  • Symposium and Bilingual Poster Presentations on work done from the 2 weeks

Requirements are:

  • 100% attendance for 2 weeks and all sessions throughout the year.
  • Adherence to the drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Parents must participate in parent events.
  • Both students and parents will be expected to participate in the program evaluation.
