They lead sympathetically by understanding that all people learn and succeed through different avenues of guidance. Specifically she is the WCSU manager for the Professional Clothes Closet (PCC)! She volunteered last year as a freshman and has made the dream of a clothing closet for our students reality. She is in charge of several other students, operations, marketing, and manages all the donations coming into the closet! She is a Career Peer Leader who has shown dedication and passion in her mentorship of dozens (and dozens!) of students. Liana is the Community Service Director of the NSLS and her outreach to this organization to get them involved with projects has been commendable. She is a notetaker for the university AND holds down another part time job AND keeps a 3.72 GPA!<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 80%\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">Recipient:<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\"> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Charles Wimer<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000080\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;<\/span>Charlie has done an exem<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #000080\">plary job of involving himself in WCSU\u2019s campus community. A proud Executive Board member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, he has a stellar <span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/05\/Wimer-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2199 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/05\/Wimer-small.jpg\" alt=\"Charles Wimer\" width=\"200\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><\/span>understanding of what it takes to meaningfully connect with others. He has provided incredible support through his participation within the Center for Student Involvement, and most recently joined the Department of Housing &amp; Residence Life as a Resident Assistant, where he has shown great promise as a student leader. As a first year student, it is Charlie\u2019s kindness, dedication, and quick learning that make him a wonderful example to his peers and a fantastic emerging leader within our campuses. He is caring, compassionate, and steps up to the plate whenever needed. He is always willing to help out in any way. He is being asked to run for more leadership positions in student life. This individual is an outstanding leader and motivator to all students, but particularly the residential students.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #3366ff;font-size: 80%\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">Recipient: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Allison Black<\/strong><\/span> from Centennial Hall<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>&#8220;Allison has displayed a fantastic commitment to WCSU through her involvement in the Department of Housing &amp; Residence Life. A stellar employee in Centennial Hall, she has earned the respect of several staff members and Resident Directors. This respect, in addition to her professional performance, has earned her a spot as a Resident Assistant for the next academic year. Her work ethic and personality make her a noteworthy member of the residential community. It is for these reasons that the Inter-Residence Hall Association is honored to present this year\u2019s Resident of the Year Award to Allison Black.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Housing and Residence Life Staff Member of the Year &#8211; RA<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">This award is given to a Resident Assistant who has shown extreme dedication to Housing throughout the academic year. Through programming, office work, and showing support for the residents of Western Connecticut State University, the award recipient is being honored for his\/her service.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #3366ff;font-size: 80%\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">Recipient:<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\"> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Wanjiru Gatheru <\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000080\">from Pinney Hall &#8211; RA of the Year<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>&#8220;Wanj has gone above and beyond this past year in the RA role.\u00a0 As a returning RA she assisted in helping the new staff understand the position and was there to help them out in any way she could. Wanj is always willing to help out the staff, and residents when she can. Many of her staff relied on her for her experience and guidance this year. Staff members turned the first floor of Litchfield Hall into a new space, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy good food, good music, and most importantly, time together. The collaborative efforts that were put into this program speak to the capabilities and dedication of the hosting staff members. It is for these reasons that the Inter-Residence Hall Association is honored to present this year\u2019s Program of the Year Award to Resident Assistants Shivam Soni and Peter Bigica for their program entitled \u201cSilent Disco.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/04\/Centennial.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2137 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/04\/Centennial.jpg\" alt=\"Centennial Hall\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Hall Council of the Year\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">This award is given to a Hall Council that has facilitated successful programming, has made an impact on their resident hall, and has ultimately coincided with the Department of Housing and Residence Life\u2019s C.U.L.T.U.R.E. program. The award is voted upon by the Inter-Residence Hall Association, which represents the residential student body.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 80%;color: #000080\">Recipient: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Centennial Hall Council<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #333399\">&#8220;Centennial Hall Council has gone above and beyond to offer programming for its residents while upholding the C.U.L.T.U.R.E Housing model. We here at PAC felt that \u201cWhose Got Game\u201d had an outstanding turnout each and every week with a very strong sense of community. This program was tailored to all students allowing them to find a place to hang out and enjoy themselves. Along with that, this program gave the ability for different clubs to host or cosponsor each week.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/slrb\/wall-of-fame\/greek-council-awards\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Awarded by <strong>Fraternity and Sorority Life<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Presented by: Nicholas Williams-Ambrosio, FSL Council President<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>New Greek Member of the Year (tie)<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">This award goes to an individual who is new to the Greek community and has made a significant contribution to his\/her Greek organization, the Greek Council, and the university. Nominations were solicited from individuals and Greek organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 80%\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">Recipient:<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #000080;text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Savannah Horton<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080\"><span style=\"font-size: 80%\"> of Delta Gamma Phi<\/span><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>&#8220;Savannah has consistently stepped up as a kind and supportive sister. She has taken on multiple leadership roles in her organization and is consistently showing up to support other organizations and spread Greek Unity. Savannah also represented WCSU at the Northeastern Greek Leadership Conference and came back with many amazing ideas and information to present to the community. He works at CSI, is an RA on campus, recently elected to the FSL executive board, and treasurer for TKE after not even a semester into joining. Usually this is unheard of, but he continually puts in the hard work, doesn&#8217;t stop, and hasn&#8217;t taken an off day. He is a friendly face in FSL and is constantly supporting all orgs. We cannot wait to see what he does next!&#8221;<\/em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Outstanding Greek Member of the Year<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">This award goes to the individual who has made a significant contribution to his\/her Greek organization, the Greek Council, and the university. WCSU&#8217;s Chapter of TKE is currently ranked 18 out of over 200 chapters nationally, ranked number 2 in the province!\u00a0 The chapter is full of many new and passionate brothers who are looking to make &#8220;Better Men for a Better World&#8221; . This year at their annual TKE Jump-A-Thon , the first since COVID hit, they were able to raise over $1,800 to St. Judes. The fraternity has been incredibly supportive of other organizations and has many focused efforts on FSL unity. He has done every job: from working COVID testing, to managing athletic games, to room setups and breakdowns, to box truck runs, organizing storage rooms and picking up and putting down the basketball floor in this very arena. All while leading other students and teaching them the job. He teaches macroeconomics, microeconomics, money &amp; banking, mathematical economics, economic development, applied econometrics, contemporary domestic economic issues, social research issues and social research seminars. His research interests include international trade and finance, financial modeling &amp; forecasting, economic development and urban economics. He has co-authored\/edited a number of books, including Investment Banking in the United States and Taiwan in the 21st Century. Pan has published numerous papers in periodicals such as Urban Studies, China Economic Review, the Journal of Computational Intelligence in Finance and Computational Economics. He\u2019s directed straight plays, musicals &amp; classics all over the country, most notably the off-B\u2019way premiere of EYE OF THE BEHOLDER starring Kim Hunter, and BUS STOP (\u201c10 Best Plays of 1980\u201d Boston Phoenix). He was a member of the WRITERS THEATRE in NYC working on new play development, the director\u2019s group at The Director\u2019s Company, a curator at The New York Theatre Workshop, participated in the Hal Prince Musical Theatre Workshop as a director for three years, as well as dramaturging\/directing numerous new plays and musical readings. As an actor, John goes back and forth between Shakespeare and musicals. On Broadway, he created the roles of Governor Slaton in PARADE, Zoser in Elton John\u2019s AIDA, and Professor Bhaer in LITTLE WOMEN, and can be heard on all three cast albums. Also on B\u2019way: MAN &amp; BOY (opposite Frank Langella), OUR COUNTRY\u2019S GOOD, and Rupert Holmes\u2019 ACCOMPLICE. As an educator, he taught Shakespeare and acting for three years at Bard College and directed HOT L BALTIMORE. At Central Connecticut State University he directed RENT, URINETOWN, and SPRING AWAKENING. Doreen\u2019s background in both nursing and advance practice nursing has been for over thirty years in critical care. Doreen is board certified in critical care and is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Cardiology. While in law school, he served as the Business Editor of the Regent University Law Review and clerked for the Judiciary Committee of the United States Senate.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000080\">Professor Miller is licensed to practice law in state and federal courts in Connecticut. He owns and operates a solo, general legal practice where he has advised clients regarding a wide array of legal matters including real estate transactions, small business formation and operation, estate planning, domestic matters, criminal matters, and civil litigation matters.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>In 2018, Professor Miller co-authored, with JLA Professor Terrence Dwyer, the textbook Business Law: Foundations for the 21st Century. Not only does she attend events but she listens to the students&#8217; voices and makes them heard throughout campus. She has been a friend in need, a supportive advisor, and a safe place for the students. She is a HPX allied health major and joined the HPX club. She is a participant in the National Society of Leadership and Success. She works on campus in the AccessAbilities office. and was an orientation leader. She has been captain of the cheerleading team for the past 2 years. She has made Dean\u2019s List 4 times. She will be graduating with Cum Laude. She has an amazing personality. She is hardworking, caring and competitive! She has always maintained an off campus jobs as well. She is a success story as a transfer and she has experienced both commuting and being a resident. She took full advantage of all the campus had to offer. Bernstein Vice President\u2019s Award for Student Leadership (tie)<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Presented by the <strong>Vice President for Student Affairs<\/strong>, <em>Dr. Keith Betts<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">This award is given each year to a student who has shown dedication, passion, and immense effort toward the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2407 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/06\/Jala-Cooke-300x300-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Jala Cooke\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/06\/Jala-Cooke-300x300-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/06\/Jala-Cooke-300x300-1.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>improvement of Student Life throughout their tenure at WCSU.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 80%\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">Recipient: <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Jala Cooke<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>&#8220;Jala is a Psychology major who was a three-time orientation leader and last year was the lead orientation leader. She held many positions within PAC, including vice president and most recently president, and worked to increase the profile of PAC by making events more frequent and popular. In her leadership roles, she has been described as a student that answered the call to the many opportunities that arose, worked well under pressure, and was very dependable.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 80%\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">Recipient: <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000080\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Patrick Moody<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 80%\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2402 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/student-affairs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/176\/2022\/06\/Moody-Patrick-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Patrick Moody\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>&#8220;Patrick is a member of the Adventure Club, the Western Marketing Association, as well as WCSU\u2019s representative on the Board of Regents Student Advisory Committee. He was the co-chair of the university-wide Mascot Committee, and senator in the Student Government Association before being elected president this past year. In his leadership role, he has increased the visibility of the SGA with our students, the university administration, and the system office, and was responsible for increasing the number of active SGA senators and representatives.
