Founded in 1932, a small group of white-collar professional state employees met in Madison, Wisconsin and formed the first state employee union, Council 24. Their mission was to promote, defend, and enhance the civil service system. In 2011, nearly 200,000 public service employees from Wisconsin lost the right to bargain collectively over health care, retirement, and working conditions.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;color: #000000\"><a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.council4.org\/\">AFSCME Council 4<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Council 4 AFSCME, represents more than 30,000 public service workers throughout Connecticut, and believes that every person working to sustain their community deserves respect. Our members provide vital services that make Connecticut happen. For the people proudly committed to public service, Council 4 never quits.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;color: #000000\">SUOAF-AFSCME<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">In the early 1970&#8217;s, a group of administrative faculty members began organizing to establish consistency in job descriptions, ranks, benefits, and compensation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">On April 1, 1977, the first contract was agreed upon and ratified, and our union became known as the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF). <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">By selection, and through the election process, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) became our bargaining agent. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Each university campus and the Board of Regents of the CSCU system has a chapter of SUOAF-AFSCME.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">On April 1, 2017, SUOAF-AFSCME entered its 40th year as the sole representative of the administrative faculty within the Connecticut State College &amp; University System, with over 800 members. SUOAF-AFSCME bargains the terms and conditions of employment for its members. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;background-color: transparent\">In these days of tight budgets and reduced state labor, the need for the union continues to grow so that employees are not abused, are compensated properly, and provided adequate benefits for the work they do to support students and faculty in the educational mission of the CSCU System.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Have a question for the union?
