Terms & Conditions

Effective as of August 2026

Note: These terms and conditions apply to all WCSU SMS campaigns. When you opt in to a specific campaign, you will receive campaign-specific information about message content, frequency, and features. Your consent applies only to the campaign(s) you have explicitly joined.

1. Campaign Description

Western Connecticut State University (“WCSU,” “we,” or “us”) offers optional SMS (text message) campaigns to provide important communications to students, alumni, and campus community members. Campaigns may include announcements, event invitations, feedback requests, admissions updates, alerts, or other campus communications from various WCSU departments and offices.

Campaign Examples:

  • University President updates and announcements
  • Admissions and enrollment communications
  • Campus safety alerts and emergency notifications
  • Student services and registration reminders
  • Event invitations and campus activities
  • Academic and administrative updates

Each campaign is separate, and you may opt in to one, some, or all campaigns. Your opt-in preferences are managed individually per campaign.

2. User Consent & Opt-In

By opting in to a WCSU SMS campaign, you confirm that:

  • You are eligible to receive messages from this WCSU campaign (as a current student, alumnus, or community member)
  • You have given express written consent to receive SMS messages from this specific WCSU campaign
  • You consent to receive SMS messages to the phone number you provided
  • You understand each campaign is optional and you may withdraw consent from any campaign at any time
  • You do not have a legal or contractual obligation to participate in any campaign

Opt-In Methods: You may opt in to specific campaigns through:

  • Campaign-specific opt-in forms available in WolvesNet (WCSU’s student portal)
  • Texting the designated keyword (e.g., START, YES, or OPTIN) to a WCSU campaign number
  • Other opt-in methods as designated by each campaign

Important: Each WCSU campaign is separate. Opting in to one campaign does not automatically enroll you in other WCSU campaigns.

3. Message Content & Frequency

Message content varies by campaign and may include:

  • Campus announcements and administrative updates
  • Event invitations, reminders, and registrations
  • Admissions and enrollment information
  • Safety alerts and emergency notifications
  • Student services reminders (registration, deadlines, etc.)
  • Requests for feedback and survey invitations
  • Links to relevant campus resources and services

Message Frequency: Frequency varies by campaign. Typical campaigns send 1-2 messages per week during the academic calendar, though this may vary. Emergency or safety notifications may be sent at any time, including outside regular hours.

At the time of opt-in, each campaign will indicate its expected message frequency.

4. Message Costs & Carrier Charges

WCSU does not charge for messages sent through this campaign. However, standard SMS message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply. This campaign does not affect your wireless plan or bill.

5. Opt-Out & Withdrawal of Consent

You may withdraw consent and stop receiving messages from a specific campaign at any time by:

  • Texting STOP, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, QUIT, END, or OPTOUT to the campaign number
  • Updating your consent preferences in WolvesNet for the specific campaign
  • Following opt-out instructions provided in campaign messages

We will send a confirmation message: “You have successfully been unsubscribed. You will not receive any more messages from this number. Reply START to resubscribe.”

Important: Opting out of one campaign does NOT automatically opt you out of other WCSU campaigns. Each campaign’s opt-out is independent.

Once you opt out of a campaign, you will not receive further messages from that campaign unless you explicitly opt back in by texting START, YES, or updating WolvesNet settings.

Carrier Disclaimer: Message and data rates may apply. Standard text messaging rates and charges apply. Contact your wireless provider for details on your plan’s SMS charges.

8. Privacy & Data Use

WCSU collects and stores your phone number and consent status solely for the purpose of sending messages through the specific campaigns you have opted into. We will not:

  • Share, sell, or rent your phone number to third parties
  • Use your phone number for marketing purposes unrelated to the campaigns you have explicitly consented to
