Zachary Duhaime

Zachary is a senior meteorology student at WCSU. Weather has been a passion of his since he was about six years old. One of his first weather memories was sitting on the back of his Nonnie’s couch on a snow day watching it fall for hours on end. After taking earth science in middle school, there was no doubt that meteorology was where his career path was heading. Students around his high school knew he was serious about the weather when he accurately predicted the historic October, 2011 snowstorm, which dumped over a half foot of snow on his hometown of Hamden, Connecticut. Shortly after, he began his own weekly weather show ‘Words of Weather’ to give forecast updates on storms including the historic Blizzard of 2013 where Hamden received the storm jackpot of an unprecedented 40 inches of snow. He also interviewed everyone from local meteorologists to Hamden’s superintendent. Only a few months after he started his freshman year of college in 2014, he became the first student meteorologist at Spectrum Communications in Newtown, CT. Since then, he has forecasted everything from hurricanes, blizzards, severe weather and seasonal outlooks all within the past 3 years on this local community television station. He has also given forecast updates during storms on live TV. This will also be his third semester forecasting weather for the Westconn Weather Team and third year as a student meteorologist on Westconn’s award-wining election show, Election Connection. He plans to graduate with his bachelors in meteorology and a minor in broadcast journalism in order to obtain a job forecasting weather on TV.
