DENIM DAY: Denim Day began in the ’90s after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault and rape.
Join the Women’s Center in the protest against sexual violence by posting a picture of you wearing denim, tell us why you choose to participate, and tag us @wcogd_oncampus for a chance to win an Amazon Echo Dot! (All are welcome to participate, but you must be a full- or part-time student to be entered into the raffle for the Amazon Echo Dot)
