Dr. Kelli Custer<\/strong> (she\/her). I am the Writing Center Coordinator and Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of World Languages and Composition. I also coordinate WCSU’s composition courses. I have taught writing and worked in writing centers for almost 30 years in Idaho, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Colorado before coming to WCSU in 2012. I passionately believe in the importance of literacy in our lives, and one of my greatest joys is the sound of a busy Writing Center. We work together here to welcome you, support you, and leave you feeling as a more confident writer. You can do it!<\/p>\n

Clare <\/strong>(she\/her) I\u2019m a Creative and Professional Writing major with a love of contemporary fiction and creative nonfiction. My favorite part about writing is the endless opportunity to explore. Outside of school, I love traveling, photography, listening to Joni Mitchell and reading books written by strong and complicated women. <\/span><\/p>\n

One of my favorite quotes is by Virginia Woolf: \u201cNo need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Georgia<\/strong> (she\/her) I graduated from WCSU in 2018 with my BA in Professional Creative Writing. In 2022, I applied to the MFA Writing Program to continue my studies with a focus in screenwriting. My undergrad consisted of courses ranging from Writing the Weird, a class about conspiracy theories and folklore, all the way to Playwriting. I primarily work with screenplays, short stories, and manuscripts. However, essays and research papers are also a strong suit of mine. I can help you narrow in on your ideas as well as help you construct a concise piece. My hobbies outside of work and school include singing and (as often as I can) golfing. My favorite quote is \u201crejection is protection\u201d and it\u2019s a mantra I live by. Life doesn\u2019t always work out the way we plan. So, when we are told \u201cno\u201d or maybe get rejected from a publication it only means that something better is coming our way. We just have to believe!\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Hayden<\/strong> (they\/them) Hi there! I’m majoring in business and technical writing with a minor in philosophy. Outside of academia, I am a working technical writer, but I love writing prose poetry in my free time. I also speak fluent Vietnamese. One of my favorite quotes is from Bojack Horseman: “It gets easier. Every day, it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it every day \u2013 that’s the hard part. While I have a deep love for literature and creative writing, my greatest strength is helping you to handle research papers. As a bilingual speaker fluent in Portuguese, I have a particular sympathy for English Language Learners, and believe the most important lesson I have learned regarding writing is that practice and effort are key. Christina<\/strong>\u00a0(she\/her) Hello there! I’m a multidisciplinary artist and writer, with a passion for both visual arts and creative expression through words. Currently majoring in Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts at WestConn, coupled with an additional MFA in Creative Writing and an MLIS under my belt, I’ve immersed myself in the realms of both visual and literary creation.<\/p>\n

Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of seeing my work published across various platforms, ranging from creative writing pieces to professional articles. Poetry holds a special place in my heart, and I’ve curated collections that reflect my experiences and observations.<\/p>\n

In addition to my creative endeavors, I’ve dedicated time to teaching English composition courses at institutions like the College of Micronesia and various colleges in the Tampa Bay area. Now, I’ve found my way back to my roots in Southeastern Connecticut, where I continue to explore, create, and contribute to the artistic and literary communities.<\/p>\n

As a double major in both Health Promotion and Interdisciplinary Studies, my passions and professional interests mirror my concentrations of Holistic & Integrative Health<\/em>, Theoretical & Applied Ethics<\/em>, and Sustainability<\/em>. Outside of the typical health promotion and interdisciplinary studies coursework, some classes that I have taken include several holistic health and ethics courses, introductory courses in both psychology and sociology, Cultural Diversity<\/em>, Indigenous Spirituality & Environmental Activism<\/em>, Nutrition and Health<\/em>, and Food, Justice, & the Environment<\/em>. When I step away from my coursework, I often feel happiest playing with weeds in the garden or with my nose deep in either a nonfiction or poetry book. In my spare time, I enjoy watching X Files<\/em> and cracking jokes with my husband in our tiny house with our tiny dog and our tiny cat. As a \u201cjack of all trades,\u201d my latest endeavor is crafting my very first sweater, which has kept me busy with my knitting needles. When it comes to writing, my current, slow-moving project is creating a holistic cookbook built around the changing seasons.<\/p>\n

I absolutely love music! I was a music education major my freshman year but ultimately decided to switch to English; I have kept music as a hobby for now. I play clarinet, ukulele, and I sing! I have my Bachelor’s in Professional Writing, and plan to teach creative writing at a college-level after I graduate. I\u2019ve been published in\u00a0The Black and White Journal<\/em>\u00a0and was also an editor for\u00a0Poor Yorick<\/em>. I\u2019m currently working on a young adult novel that I hope to get published once it\u2019s finished and I\u2019m already working on a second novel. My favorite book is\u00a0The Catcher in the Rye<\/em>\u00a0by J.D. Salinger, and I love to read young adult fiction, horror, and my peer\u2019s creative writing pieces.<\/p>\n

My dream is to be a kindergarten teacher by day and an editor by night:) In my free time, I love to do crafts, diamond paintings, and puzzles (metaphorical and literal ones). I absolutely love peer collaboration and working alongside someone to share ideas and bounce off one another. As a writer, I really focus on creating a piece that is concentrated and concise but also has a very natural rhythm to it. Writing is art; I love seeing it all come together as a cohesive work. In that same vein, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to transform ideas and concepts into a full-length piece and put my thoughts down on paper. I am also speak fluent Arabic.
