The Master of Science in Addiction Studies program at WCSU has partnered with the UCONN School of Education to set up a pathway for our students to earn an LPC certificate from UCONN after graduation from WCSU’s Addiction Studies program. In collaboration with the CT Department of Public Health, a program of study is now established to allow our students to earn 23 additional credits that fulfills the coursework and internship training hours required to apply for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
What is this change?
Students who are interested in earning a degree in addiction counseling will continue to complete WCSU coursework which fulfills DPH requirements to become a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) after graduating with their Master’s in Addiction Studies. They can then apply and continue coursework at UCONN to earn their LPC after graduation.
Who is this for?
This pathway is ideal for students who know they are interested in addiction counseling and want to earn an LADC but are also interested in receiving broad training in mental health counseling and broadening career options. With this exciting new pathway, our students will have the ability to become dually licensed as Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors AND Licensed Professional Counselors. Coursework and internship requirements are partial fulfillment of DPH requirements. Students are encouraged to contact DPH and review full licensure information at LPC and LADC.
