Norovirus Information

Although the flu season is coming to a close, outbreaks of illnesses that cause vomiting and diarrhea are still occurring in the state and throughout the Northeast. To prevent getting sick, meticulous hand hygiene is recommended. Wash with soap and water because hand sanitizers do not kill all the viruses that cause these illnesses.  If you do experience vomiting and/or diarrhea, go home or remain in your dormitory room and advise a friend, roommate, family member or resident director that you are ill.

High fever, dizziness, bloody stools or inability to walk or breathe indicates that you may need to be seen in the Emergency Room. A student may call WCSU Health Services Department for advice on stomach flu and will be assessed on the phone.  If you are sick, do not get on the shuttle because this will spread infection. Rehydrate gradually with clear fluids. Do not return to school until you are symptom-free for 24 to 36 hours.

If you consider your situation to be an emergency, call 911. Those who are less ill and need help after hours can visit the WCSU after hours health service link for local urgent care or walk-in centers at Go to this site for more information on these types of illnesses:
