Connecticut State University Immunization Requirements

REQUIRED:

State of Connecticut General Statutes/ Section 10a-155 regulations requires all matriculated students born after December 31, 1956, to provide proof of adequate immunization against measles (rubeola),
rubella, mumps and varicella (chicken pox) before permitting such students to enroll.

1. Proof of immunity to Measles (Rubeola): you must provide proof of the following:

  • 2 MMR or 2 measles immunizations (1st dose of measles on or after your 1st birthday; 2nd dose at least 28 days later); OR
  • Lab results showing a positive measles titer.  (Submit a copy of the lab results)

2. Proof of immunity to Mumps: you must provide proof of the following:  

  • 2 MMR or 2 mumps immunizations (1st dose of Mumps must be on or after your 1st birthday; 2nd dose at least 28 days later); OR 
  • Lab result showing a positive mumps titer.  (Submit a copy of the lab results)2nd dose must be at least 28 days from 1st dose

3.  Proof of immunity to Rubella: you must provide proof of the following:

  • 2 MMR or 2 rubella immunizations (1st dose of measles on or after your 1st birthday; 2nd dose at least 28 days later); OR
  • Lab results showing a positive rubella titer.  (Submit a copy of the lab results)

4.  Proof of immunity to Varicella(chicken pox): you must provide proof of the following:

  • 2 varicella immunizations (2nd dose at least 28 days after the 1st dose.); OR
  • Lab result showing a positive varicella titer. (Submit a copy of the lab result)

5. Proof of Meningitis (MenACWY)/Menactra/MCV4: administered within the past five years is required for all campus residents prior to room assignment. The vaccine must include groups: A, C, Y, W-135.

 

RECOMMENDED (but not required) Immunizations:

  • Covid-19Beginning with Fall 2022 Semester, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is no longer required. We are strongly encouraging all students to be up to date with immunization and boosters.
  • Hepatitis B:  American College Health, Public Health Department, and Centers for Disease Control recommend students be immunized against Hepatitis B.  Although not required, it is strongly recommended.
  • Tetanus: Boosters are recommended every 10 years
  • HPVHPV is common virus that can cause cancers later in life. 
  • Meningitis B Vaccine:  Serogroup B vaccination is recommended for adolescents 16-23 years old. 

 

EXEMPTIONS for Required Immunizations:

  • Students born prior to January 1, 1957 are exempt from all immunization requirements.
  • Students born prior to January 1, 1980 are exempt from the varicella requirement.
  • For Items 1-4:  Certification of confirmed case of measles, mumps, rubella & varicella by a licensed health care provider may be submitted in lieu of the above.
  • The University will only permit vaccination exemptions for medical reasons in accordance with CT State Law.
  • New Religious Exemptions are no longer accepted, however previously documented exemptions prior to April 2021 will be honored. 
    Exemptions subjects the individual to exclusion from campus in the event of an outbreak of a disease for which immunizations are required.

  • Distance learning programs conducted entirely through electronic media in a setting without other students present are exempt.
