Transfer Students

Welcome to Western!

Congratulations on choosing to continue your education at Western Connecticut State University!

How Advising Works:

  • All transfer students are advised through the University Advisement Center for their first semester.
  • Students are assigned to a University Advisor based on their program or area of study.
  • Your University Advisor does not replace faculty/program advising. You will be assigned to a Faculty Advisor/Mentor after your first semester.
  • To identify your advisors, you can visit Degree Works and your assigned advisors will be listed at the top of the page.

Your University Advisor Can Help You:

  • Discuss  your academic and career goals
  • Review your degree requirements and your progress toward degree completion.
  • Support and collaborate with your faculty/program advisor
  • Encourage involvement with campus activities
  • Help you connect with academic support services such as tutoring and study skills
  • Empower you to become a self-advocate
  • Develop effective decision-making and problem-solving skills

Who is my advisor?

You can find your advisor information in BannerWeb!

  • Go to www.wcsu.edu and click on the “Essentials” tab at the top right. Then click “My Banner” (or click the link below)
  • Enter your username and password, and you will be on the BannerWeb home page.
  • To view your advisor(s), click “My Registration Status”

What are my next steps?

Be sure to follow the steps below to ensure a seamless registration process!

Confirm your Admission

In order to register for classes, all full-time transfer students must pay a $200 admissions deposit before they are eligible to register for classes. This deposit signifies your commitment to attend Western.

Students intending to enroll part-time do not have to pay an admissions deposit.

Schedule and Prepare for your University Advisement Meeting

Review the instructions above to identify who your advisor is. Then click the button below to schedule a meeting with your advisor!

Review each item to best prepare for your meeting:

  • Transfer evaluation, which was provided by the Office of Admissions
  • Degree Works, your official degree audit system, to see how your credits transferred towards specific degree requirements
  • Program Plan for your major as a guide for degree progression
  • Open/Close to see what classes are available. Write down a few to discuss with your advisor!

Your username and password are the same as you received when you created your WCSU Student Email account. If you do not have access to your BannerWeb or Student Email, please use the How to Access BannerWeb link, or contact the IT HelpDesk at (203)-837-8467.

Meet with Your Advisor and Complete Registration

During this meeting, your advisor will review your transfer credit evaluation, review our General Education and University requirements, and explain how your transfer credits are being applied to your degree requirements. Your advisor will help you register for the semester and provide you with your registration PIN.

Students may make adjustments to their schedule up until the end of Add/Drop through their BannerWeb accounts or through the Registrar’s Office. Please review the Academic Calendar for all policy deadlines. The best way to Add/Drop courses is by using your BannerWeb account, and the PIN provided during your advisement meeting.

Submit your Final Offical Transcript

If you are currently taking classes at another institution, don’t forget to request the official transcript from that institution after your final grades have been posted.

If your final transcript is not received by the deadline, it may impact courses that you have registered for.

Optional: Submit your High School Transcript

You may contact your high school to have your transcript submitted to Western (admissions@wcsu.educreate new email) so it can be used to determine your college-level math placement and to potentially waive your language requirement (if your degree program requires it).
