Placement Testing Information

WCSU uses the SAT or ACT scores for first year and transfer students to assist us in placing you at the appropriate level in Writing and Mathematics/Computer Science courses.

Incoming first-time Pre-Nursing Students should have received information on taking placement exams via email.  If you have any questions please reach out to Annmarie Savarese, Savaresea@wcsu.edu

All incoming first-time students who applied test-optional will be required to take both the math and writing placement exams. Students will receive information on placements via email after they deposit. Students will need to register separately for a math exam session and a writing exam session.

Incoming first-time students with an EBR&W SAT score less than 600 or ACT English score less than a 27 will be required to take a writing placement exam. Students will receive information on placements via email after they deposit. If you took AP English: Lang/Comp or AP English: Lit/Comp and scored a 3 or higher you will not have to take the writing exam. Please submit your AP score report. If you took a duel enrollment English/Writing course please submit your transcript from the college or university you took the class through (not your high school transcript) for evaluation to determine if you need to take the writing placement exam.

Transfer students may be exempt if prior course work has been completed. Please refer to the notes section of your Degree Works audit for placement information. If instructed to take placements transfer students can submit SAT or ACT scores for placement (students with an EBR&W SAT score less than 600 or ACT English score less than a 27 will be required to take a writing placement exam). If you have not taken the SATS or ACTs and were instructed to take the placement exams please sign up for the appropriate placement sessions. Transfer students must meet with an academic advisor in order to register for courses.

Any incoming student wishing to place into a higher Mathematics course than indicated by the SAT/ACT score may take the Mathematics placement test.

Current WCSU students who have been advised to take a placement exam please contact Annmarie Savarese, Savaresea@wcsu.edu  to set up a placement time during your registration time.

Please contact Annmarie Savarese, Assistant Director of Admissions at 203-837-9098 or Savaresea@wcsu.edu with any question pertaining to placements.
