On April 24, Rhett Miller visited campus as part of the 2026 Kathwari Honors Spring Seminar series. An icon of Americana and contemporary songwriting, Miller has released 13 albums with Old97s and 10 solo albums, most recently A lifetime of riding by night. Miller is also the creator of the Wheels Off podcast, for which he has interviewed many of the greats of contemporary Americana music and other creatives about “the messy reality of creative life.” In 2025, with Old97s, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association.
Miller performed at the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall and held a Q&A session. Earlier in the day, Miller also hosted a songwriting workshop for students. Overall, Miller’s visit offered the entire WCSU community a chance to enjoy music and delve into the creative process.
