Below, please find open positions for the 26-27 academic year.
Position 1: Composition Embedded Consultant
Did you excel in your Composition 1 course? Are you interested in helping fellow students? Do you have a positive attitude about writing and academic work? Join our Team!
Composition Embedded Consultants (CECs) work with students in Composition 1 in connection with faculty partners. CECs attend class sessions and hold office hours in the Writing Center. There are many ways that CECs might support students taking Composition 1, such as providing one-on-one peer tutoring on Composition 1 assignments at any stage of the writing process, teaching mini-lessons or workshops during or outside of class time, preparing handouts and online support, assisting with activities in class, and more. CECs will take part in tutor education before the semester begins and throughout the semester. Some CECs may also work as Writing Consultants.
Required Qualifications
- Current WCSU student (any major) with a minimum of 15 credits completed by Fall 2026
- Grade of B+ or higher in Composition 1
- Overall (cumulative) grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- Excellent writing skills
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiar with MLA format
- Comfortable with technology, including Microsoft Word and Blackboard
- Fluency in another language is a bonus! (Non-native speakers are welcome)
Location
- The Writing Center is located in Haas Library room 302 on the Midtown campus
- Composition 1 classes are primarily on the Midtown campus with some openings on Westside
Hours and Salary
- Average 7 hours per week, minimum $17/hour
- The Writing Center is open Sunday-Friday
- Schedules are made around your class schedule and remain the same each week
- Each CEC is assigned to a Composition 1 section and expected to attend every class session unless told otherwise. A variety of class times are available

Position 2: Writing Consultant
Do you excel in your writing assignments, especially research papers? Do you enjoy helping your peers? Do you have a positive attitude about writing and academic work? Are you interested in working with a great team? Then you’ve found the right job ad!
Writing Center consultants work with fellow students on all types of writing assignments from any class at any stage of the writing process. New consultants will take part in tutor education before the semester begins and throughout the semester. The work location is the Writing Center, Haas Library room 302, on the Midtown Campus.
Required Qualifications
- Current WCSU student, any major
- Minimum of 45 credits completed by Fall 2026
- Overall (cumulative) grade point average of 3.2 or higher
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong critical reading skills
Preferred Qualifications
- At least three semesters remaining before graduation.
- Prior experience with customer service of any kind
- Extensive research experience
- Fluency in another language is a bonus! (Non-native speakers are welcome)
Hours and Salary
- Average 8 hours per week, minimum $17/hour
- The Writing Center is open Sunday-Friday
- Morning, afternoon, and evening hours are available
- Schedules are made around your class schedule and remain the same each week
