Safer Holiday Gatherings

Public health experts are strongly recommending against holiday gatherings this year.  The risk of transmitting the virus at a holiday party is undeniable.   It’s understandable that many families will still choose to come together, though, because these traditions are just what we crave to get out from under the weight of the coronavirus pandemic.

If you choose to have family gatherings, these suggestions might make them safer and offer some protection to your loved ones:

  • Limit the number of people at your gathering to fewer than 10.
  • Hold your gathering outdoors, if possible.  Light a fire in the firepit if you have one.  Advise people to dress warmly and have a few quilts on hand.
  • If gathering indoors, allow for good ventilation by opening windows.
  • Continue to maintain social distancing indoors, as much as possible, especially when eating or drinking.
  • Wear masks in your home when any visitors are present.
  • If traveling out of state, be aware of the testing requirements of that state.  Be aware of the severity of covid in your visitors’ home states.

Holiday gatherings are likely to bring young and old family members together.  Please be mindful of how easily a young asymptomatic individual could pass the illness on to someone at risk of a more serious illness.

Please find ways to stay safely connected to your loved ones this holiday season.  Wishing everyone a safe and restorative end to 2020!
