DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University theatre arts department will present Ivan Menchel’s 1990 Broadway comedy, “The Cemetery Club,” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept 18 – 20, in the Reimold Theatre in Berkshire Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.
Fresh off a well-received summer run at the Thomaston Opera House, “The Cemetery Club” will be remounted for three performances at WestConn to benefit the Richard Reimold Scholarship Fund, established by WCSU Professor Emeritus Richard Reimold to support talented WCSU theatre arts students. All proceeds from the $20 tickets will fund student scholarships. To purchase tickets, call (203) 837-8499 or visit www.wcsu.edu/tickets.
Reimold came to WestConn in 1968 as a member of the English department. His ambition to start a theatre program was realized in 1970, when the speech and theatre arts department was established. Not long after, it became the department of communications and theatre arts. Until Reimold’s retirement in 1992, he served as chairman of the theatre section of the department of communications and theatre arts.
The scholarship that bears his name was created, Reimold said, “To encourage theatre arts students to pursue their dreams in all aspects of theatre endeavors.”
Not coincidentally, the performance will be staged in a campus theater that also bears his name.
Donna Storms will direct the cast that includes Maire Greene (Ida), Lynne Wilson (Lucille), Helen Adams (Doris) and Cathy Annulli (Mildred). Reimold also appears in the production as Sam.
