2013 WCSU expands financial literacy program for students
DANBURY, CONN. — Western Connecticut State University has added a workshop series to its financial literacy program to provide students from all degree programs important information about investing, financial planning and assessing risk. Certified Public Accountant John F. Pearson will conduct three free, interactive workshops for students in November 2013 in the Ballroom of the university’s Westside Campus Center, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.
Upcoming workshops will include:
Tuesday, Nov. 12: “What’s Your Plan.” At 10:50 a.m. in the Westside Ballroom South, Pearson will discuss post college-life expectations and how to lay the financial foundation for a budget. Students will have the opportunity to create their own budgetary plan.
Thursday, Nov. 14: “Investing in Today’s World.” At 1:40 p.m. in the Westside Ballroom South, Pearson will discuss today’s investment world, including the risks and potential rewards. He will show students how to design an investment model and utilize the tools available to help execute their plan.
Tuesday, Nov. 19: “Risk Management.” At 5:25 p.m. in the Westside Ballroom North, Pearson will present students with the tools to manage risk assets and explain the potential pitfalls of investment.
Food and soft drinks will be served and three $10 iTunes gift cards will be raffled at each event. These events are open to WCSU students only.
Pearson has had his own tax strategy and preparation practice for more than 35 years. He specializes in creative approaches to tax advice that help his clients keep more of what they earn. For 27 years he has also maintained a second business in the financial services field, assisting his clients with concepts and ideas that help coordinate and streamline their finances on both a personal and business front.
Pearson, an experienced national speaker, has lectured to certified public accountants and certified financial planners, college financial aid and admissions officers around the country on a variety of financial topics.
