2026 Tailgating Rules and Regulations

Location: Commuter Parking Lot adjacent to the Recreation Fields, across from Centennial Hall on the Westside campus.

Event Hours

Alcohol and Guest Conduct

Guests who consume alcohol must be 21 years of age or older and must show a valid driver’s license or state ID at the gate to receive a wristband.
Alcohol must remain within the designated tailgating area.
Bulk quantities of alcohol, kegs, and glass containers are prohibited.
Guests are expected to drink responsibly.
Underage drinking, loud music, littering, or any behavior deemed inappropriate may result in immediate removal and revocation of tailgating privileges.

Parking, Space, and Setup

Each vehicle and its associated tailgating activities may occupy only one paid parking space.
Pop-up tents require two spaces and should be placed in grassy areas whenever possible.
Saving spaces for another vehicle is prohibited.
Grills, coolers, tables, and similar items must be set up in front of or behind the vehicle.
Tailgating setups may not obstruct the free flow of vehicles, pedestrians, or emergency services.
Roads, sidewalks, tunnels, and means of egress must remain clear throughout the event.
No structure may be raised that requires supports to be pounded into the ground unless prior authorization has been obtained.

Cooking, Grills, and Fire Safety

Approved cooking appliances include outdoor propane grills, microwaves, and slow cookers only.
Large gas grills are permitted.
Charcoal grills, charcoal fires, fryers, ovens, smokers, and open fire pits are strictly prohibited.

Generators and Fuel Storage

Generators are limited to silent-type inverter models rated at 65 dB or lower.
Generators must be placed at least 20 feet away from gathering areas, including tents.
Refueling generators while they are operating is strictly prohibited.
Fuels such as propane or gasoline must be stored in appropriate containers and removed by the owner at the conclusion of the event.
Report oil, fuel, or other hazardous material spills to WCSU Police immediately.

Trash, Waste, and Campus Policies

Trash receptacles will be available in the tailgating area. Please dispose of all trash in the provided receptacles.
Each carload will receive a trash bag at the entrance.
Dumping waste, including food waste and cooking oils, on university grounds is strictly prohibited.
Western Connecticut State University is a smoke-free and vape-free campus.
