WestConn to offer CEUs

DANBURY, CONN. — The Connecticut State Department of Education has authorized Western Connecticut State University to award Continuing Education Units, or CEUs for various lectures, seminars and other programs offered by the university.

Public school teachers are required to earn CEUs as part of their ongoing certification. The first events for which WestConn offered CEUs were a lecture by Abigail Disney on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and the various events that make up “One Book, One Community,” the effort to encourage all WestConn first-year students and the residents of Danbury to read “Hurry Down Sunshine” this fall. CEUs will be offered for the Wednesday, Oct. 28, lecture by author Michael Greenberg.

“By offering CEUs, the university is providing a service to school teachers and making WCSU an even more valuable resource to the community,” said Dr. Linda K. Rinker, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “WestConn provides a wide range of excellent academic programs that are accessible to students first, but also to residents of the region. It is one of our strategic strengths.”

As a CEU provider, the university must adhere to strict recordkeeping and other guidelines overseen by the Connecticut State Department of Education. Individuals who wish to earn CEUs also must follow certain guidelines. Catherine Cote of the Office of University Relations is administering the program. Her phone number is (203) 837-8486.
