2012 WCSU joins with Danbury officials to make White Street safer

DANBURY, CONN. — In an effort to improve traffic safety around the Midtown campus of Western Connecticut State University, city and university officials will hold a public meeting to elicit ideas from the community.

The White Street Task Force will hold the forum at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, in Student Center Room 201 on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The public is invited to present ideas on what can be done to improve traffic, safety and the quality of life on White Street.

The task force was created after several pedestrians were struck recently by vehicles on White Street near the university. In November, a WCSU student died after being hit by car.

The task force members are Walter Bernstein, WCSU vice president for Student Affairs; Farid Khouri, city engineer for the City of Danbury; Paul Reis, WCSU vice president of Finance and Administration; Stephen Rosentel, president of Leahy’s Fuels in Danbury; Wayne Shepperd, chief of staff for the City of Danbury; Paul Steinmetz, WCSU interim vice president of Institutional Advancement; and Peter Visentin, WCSU director of Planning and Engineering.
