2015 MaryJean Rizzo-Rebeiro recognized by WCSU Foundation
DANBURY, CONN. — MaryJean Rizzo-Rebeiro is a powerhouse in the Danbury region. She is the president of NY-CONN Corp. electrical contractors, as well as a supporter and participant in organizations and events that benefit a range of residents who could use a helping hand.
Rebeiro is being honored with the WCSU Foundation’s Community Service Award for her commitment to Danbury at the 34th annual WestConn Society Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the Ethan Allen Hotel, 21 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The WCSU Foundation, established in 1971, is dedicated to raising and managing donations for the university and its students.
Rebeiro is a proud native of Danbury and has a special relationship with Western Connecticut State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She sits on the board of directors of the WCSU Foundation and her family created the Rizzo Endowed Scholarship for the Ancell School of Business, which has been helping undergraduates for more than 10 years. Rebeiro and NY-CONN Corp. recently added another $50,000 to the scholarship fund to benefit graduate students, a first for the Ancell School.
“I am very proud to be a part of the school that gave me an excellent education,” Rebeiro said. “I obtained the stepping stones needed to navigate in the business world from my professors at the Ancell School of Business. I often catch myself quoting one of my professors and it is then that I realize what a strong foundation I was given and the impact my teachers had on me then and now.”
As a female executive in a male-dominated industry, Rebeiro has not only succeeded but offers guidance to other women in business as a member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Western Connecticut and the chambers Women’s Business Council. Rebeiro also sits on the board of directors of the Regional Hospice, and with her family supports several other charities. She is regularly honored by community organizations for the work and intelligence she puts toward many projects.
Rebeiro and her husband, Anthony, have three children: Stephanie, 27; Nicholas, 25; and Steven, 21.
