LIVING, LEARNING, AND COMMUNITY

WHY GRANADA?

Granada is an excellent location to immerse yourself in Spanish.
This is less a city than a large, relaxed colonial town, where most
evenings find people out on the sidewalks, talking and laughing.
Granada’s charm will surprise you - full of bright colors, a long history,
lake breezes, and the sounds of horse-drawn carriages.

Founded in 1524, Granada has a rich colonial heritage, seen in its
architecture and layout. It is situated on the northwestern shore of
Lake Cocibolca, the largest lake in Central America. From the lakeshore
you can travel to the twin volcanoes that form the island of Ometepe, home
to pre-Columbian legends and petroglyphs. Did you know that
Granada
is the oldest colonial city
in Nicaragua and the continental Western Hemisphere?

Granada’s proximity to the Pacific Coast makes it an excellent point
of departure to study a variety of sea turtles that return by the thousands
to Nicaragua’s beaches each year to lay their eggs. It is also close to the
Mombacho cloud forest, and numerous lakes and volcanoes, all offering
diverse environments to study ecological sustainability in a vibrant cultural context.

Granada’s warmth is found not only in its climate, but in its people.
You are invited to join us here to live and learn in a global community.

Spanish class will be here!

STILL THINKING?... READ WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID...

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  Mark Twain

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.  Maya Angelou

Travel is more than seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.  Miriam Beard

Two roads diverged in a wood and I - I took the one less traveled by.  Robert Frost

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. Marcel Proust

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.  Augustine
