Exploratory Major Pathways

Exploratory Pathways Program

All first-time, full-time Exploratory Studies students are invited to join the Exploratory Major Pathways program as incoming freshmen. This program provides direction to students in the Exploratory Studies/Undecided major with high-contact support and guidance from our professional advisors.

The Exploratory Pathways program provides students with a two semester course plan in one of four designated options. Each pathway is associated with a collection of majors, where students will complete early academic requirements while exploring coursework from the pathway each semester.  Each pathway collection is designed to allow for exploration and keep students on track for graduation.

Students benefit from the Exploratory Pathway model by building friendships, connecting with study partners, and having peer support along the way. Every student enrolled in a pathway will be paired with a Peer Mentor through the LIB 101 Fundamentals of Academic Success course listed on their schedule.

Peer Mentor Program & LIB 101 Fundamentals of Academic Success

Students participating in the Pathways program are also paired with a Peer Mentor. This is an excellent opportunity for incoming students to connect with another student to help them transition into college and have support through the process of learning the culture of WCSU. Peer mentors will help new students meet the academic expectations from college professors, navigating a new environment, and meeting new people, creating lifelong relationships.

Students meet with their Peer Mentor at least five times throughout the semester for support with time management, organization, participation in campus activities, and connecting with WCSU professors and staff.

Peer mentors complete 10-hours of training prior to the beginning of the semester, and are eligible to become Certified Peer Educators through CRLA, the College Reading & Learning Association. For more information about the Peer Mentor & Academic Success programs, please visit First Year Peer Mentor and Academic Success program’s opens in a new windowwebsite.
