A winning season for the Western Connecticut State University Colonials was crowned Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 when the team defeated Salve Regina University at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Northeast Bowl. The 48-35 victory marked the second ECAC Championship for the Colonials. They defeated Nichols College, 63-10 for the Northeast title in 2000. After posting an impressive 7-2 season, Western entered the championship game, held at Salve Regina’s Gaudet Field in Newport, R.I., on a four-game winning streak to end the regular season. The Colonials posted a 6-2 record in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. The outstanding season was marked by the national attention received when running back Octavias McKoy broke an all-time collegiate record for rushing yards in October. McKoy and fellow running back Eddy Williams were named co-most valuable players after leading the Colonials to victory in the title bowl. Quarterback Will Arndt completed 19 of 33 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown.
