Women’s History Month 2025
Why We Celebrate Women’s History Month and the 2025 Theme
Each March, we celebrate Women’s History Month to honor the vital role women have played in shaping history, culture, and society. It is a time to recognize the groundbreaking achievements of women across every field and to reflect on the continued struggles for equity, representation, and justice.
Women’s History Month began as a weeklong celebration in 1981 and was later expanded to a month in 1987. Since then, it has served as an important reminder of the countless contributions women have made—often against great odds—and a call to action to advance gender equity in all areas of life.
The 2025 National Theme: “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion”
The 2025 theme, selected by the National Women’s History Alliance, is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” This theme recognizes women who understand that, for a positive future, we must eliminate bias and discrimination from our institutions and communities. It honors those who have championed efforts to expand access and opportunity, amplify underrepresented voices, and ensure that all women—regardless of background—can thrive.
From grassroots activists and educators to corporate leaders and policymakers, these women are driving lasting change and helping build a more just and inclusive society for everyone.
