27th Annual “Bagpiper on the Green” performance set for March 13

DANBURY, CONN. — Western Connecticut State University will host the 27th annual “Bagpiper on the Green” and “the Celtic Winds” in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The celebration will be on Thursday, March 13, weather permitting, because WCSU students will be on break on the holiday’s actual date, March 17.

Professor of Justice and Law Administration (JLA) Dr. David Machell will play the pipes and flutes and Professor of Music David Smith will play the field drum. The performance also will include readings by JLA Professor Charles Mullaney and narration by JLA Assistant Professor Terry Dwyer.

Machell’s appearance will continue a tradition he started in 1981 — his first year at WestConn — to commemorate the eve of St. Patrick’s Day.

The performances will be at 10:30 a.m. in the “fishbowl” of the Classroom Building on the university’s Westside campus, Lake Avenue Extension in Danbury, and at noon on the Quadrangle of the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The performances will be free and open to the public.

For more information, call Machell at (203) 837-8696 or the Office of University Relations at (203) 837-8486.
