Reopening WCSU

Masking Instructions/Information

Masks provide important protection against Covid-19 and especially against the Omicron variant. To ensure maximum protection, view the information below and visit the CDC site on masking.

How to wear a mask

  • Be sure that it covers your nose and your mouth.
  • Adjust the fit of the mask to ensure your chin is covered.
  • Secure the mask around the bridge of your nose.

Choose masks with AT LEAST two filtering layers.

A cloth mask may not provide sufficient protection. But a disposable mask with a washable cloth mask over it can provide better fit AND extra protection.

Forget your mask?

The information desks in the Midtown Student Center and the Westside Campus Center have N95, KN95, disposable surgical-style and WCSU branded two-ply cloth masks available for students, faculty and staff.

Face coverings with the “N95” designation are actually respirators. Some limitations are associated with the use of N95 respirators:

  1. Effectiveness decreases significantly if the wearer is not clean-shaven. Beard, stubble, or long mustaches may cause leaks;
  2. N95 respirators are typically designed to be used by adults and they have not been tested for broad use in children and children younger than two years old should NOT wear any mask;
  3. N95 respirators restrict air intake by design. Anyone with respiratory or cardiac health issues should NOT wear an N95 respirator without consulting with their physician.

Proper care and storage of these masks is essential and includes:

  1. Keep out of contaminated areas, away from dust, direct sunlight and damaging chemicals;
  2. Avoid storing at temperatures of greater than 80 degrees Fahrenheit;
  3. Avoid storing at relative humidity levels of greater than 80%;
  4. When not in use, should be stored by placing in a separate bag (preferably paper), or container (Tupperware bins with holes poked in the top of the container).
