Welcome to WCSU!

The Peer Mentor program connects first-year students with a trained peer mentor. This is an excellent opportunity for incoming students to connect with another WCSU student to help them transition to college and find their place here at WCSU.

The First Year Peer Mentor Program supplements FY Experience courses. Working with a peer mentor is a great way to meet new people, learn how to navigate a new environment, understand the academic expectations of college, develop good study habits, and connect to helpful campus resources.

We know that the transition to college can sometimes feel overwhelming. The Peer Mentor program wants you to be prepared to tackle the many common challenges faced by all first-year students!

What is a peer mentor?

Peer mentors are trained, upper-class students who know what it is like to struggle and succeed in college. Think of your peer mentor as your personal guide and role model for being a successful college student.

Peer Mentors complete 10-hours of training prior to the beginning of the semester, and are eligible to become Certified Peer Educators through CRLA, the College Reading & Learning Association.

Hi everyone! My name is Tori, and I am a junior Public Health major with a concentration in Allied Health and a minor in Psychology. I’m a Christian who loves to sing, read, learn, and have fun. I am involved in campus ministries, the Western Adventure Club, and Bella Canto a cappella. I can’t wait to meet all of you and help you live your college life to the fullest!

Howdy! I’m Ian (he/him), a junior political science major and vice president of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Since my first year, I’ve gotten super involved in campus life through the Student Government Association, Student Publications Board, and Student Action Union. I became a first-year peer mentor so I can give back to the program that got me here, and to share my experience with like-minded freshmen who want to make the most of Westconn!

Hey, I’m Adrienne! I’m a senior at WCSU studying Criminology under the Justice and Law Administration. I am a fan of wrestling and traitorous reality TV shows like Survivor. As a peer mentor, I hope to provide support and guidance to incoming students as you navigate your college experience. I am very excited to meet everyone and help out where I can!

Hey I’m Justin (he/him), and I’m a Senior Elementary Education major. I am involved around campus as the President of the Program Activities Council (PAC), a Dining Ambassador for WCSU Dining, and I work as a CEC in the Writing Center. In my free time, I enjoy playing Pokémon, practicing guitar, and hanging out with friends. This is my third year being a Peer Mentor, and I am so excited to meet you all this year!

Hello, my name is Olivia (she/her)! I am a junior here at WCSU, majoring in theater with an acting concentration. I love spending my free time reading, drawing, painting, making music, writing, or collecting things like seashells or stuffed animals. I’m looking forward to helping you adjust to college life and making new friends along the way. Feel free to reach out to me if you ever need someone to talk to.

Hello everyone! My name is Bryan (he/him), and I am so happy to be a Peer Mentor this year. I am a sophomore Acting major, and you can find me performing or rehearsing onstage, on activities with the Honors Program, working as a desk worker in Litchfield or Newberry Hall, or just eating lunch in the dining hall during my break. My favorite color is red, and I enjoy going to as many campus events as possible. I can’t wait to meet everyone this year!

Hi, I’m Siobhan (she/her)! I’m a junior, majoring in Psychology with minors in Criminal Justice and Social Justice. I love getting involved on campus whether it’s through work, honors societies, academic opportunities, or my sorority. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, volunteering, listening to music, watching movies and TV shows, and exploring new ways to learn and grow.

Hi, my name is Tessa (she/her)! I am a sophomore majoring in nursing and minoring in holistic and integrative health. I am involved in a local sorority on campus, Kappa Chi Alpha. Some of my interests are baking, painting, watching horror movies, and hanging out with friends. My name is James (he/him), and I’m a graduate assistant with the Peer Mentorship program at WCSU while pursuing my master’s degree in Counselor Education. In my time away from school, I love exploring the outdoors with my family and our dog, Kiara, traveling to new places, and being around music in any capacity. Hi, I’m Val (she/her). I’m a sophomore in the Elementary Education program, aspiring to teach Kindergarten or First Grade. I have a strong interest in math and love finding creative ways to make learning fun and engaging for students. I’m passionate about helping others, getting involved in my community, and personal growth. In my free time, I enjoy coloring, reading, crafting, driving, and spending time with my two dogs. Hi y’all! My name is Margot (she/her) and I’m a sophomore Music major with a minor in Justice and Law Administration. I’m currently a DJ and News Director for WXCI, our campus radio station and have a deep love for our local music scene. Hi! I’m Izzy (he/him) and I am a Junior in the biochemistry program with a minor in Spanish Translation and Psychology! When not hitting the books, you can find me either with the Chemistry club, Minorities in Medicine, or working at the hospital as a Mental Health Tech, and the Ice Arena as a skating coach. I love a quiet night with a good book, or out till sun rise with my friends. I’m very excited for a great semester and to meet you all!

Welcome new WCSU Wolves! I am the coordinator of the FY Peer Mentor program and teach in the First Year Experience program here at WCSU. I also coordinate the Tutoring Resource Center. My door is always open, so stop by any time to chat or ask a question! I love Korean dramas, hiking, gardening, and spending time with my husband, 5-month-old son, and husky-mix Ash!
