Graduate Assistantships at WestConn

Graduate Assistantships provide on-campus, extracurricular, experiential learning experiences and stipends to graduate students. They are available to well-qualified, matriculated graduate students in activities that are academically relevant to the students’ program of study.

The graduate assistantship positions require the candidate to be matriculated in a graduate program at WestConn, registered for the current semester, and have a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. Graduate assistantships may be awarded in three categories: Graduate Assistant (GA), Teaching Assistant (TA), and Research Assistant (RA), who provide support for the university. Graduate Assistants may not be employed by any other employment category of the university.

Stipends awarded to Graduate Assistants range from $ 1,200 to $ 4,800 per semester and should not exceed 20 work hours per week.

In addition to a stipend award, full-time graduate students (enrolled in nine credits or more per semester) may have the following fees waived:

  • State University Fee
  • University General Fee, except for that portion attributable to student accident insurance
  • Student Activity Fee

If a graduate student is interested in applying for a Graduate Assistantship at WCSU, they may seek guidance from their Graduate Program Coordinator and/or department chair.

Graduate students applying for a graduate assistantship must complete the graduate assistant application form and submit it along with an updated resume to the Graduate Program Coordinator or the individual supervising the position for which they are applying.

Faculty and staff hiring a graduate assistant must submit the graduate assistant appointment form, along with the completed Graduate Assistant Application, the updated student resume, and the job description to Dr. Jessica Coronel (coronelj@wcsu.edu).
