Academic Year 2007-2008 Accomplishments


  • Dr. Theresa Canada has been chosen as an honoree by the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF).
  • The Connecticut State University System Board of Trustees honored Dr. Robin C. Flanagan and Dr. Shane M. Murphy - Flanagan with the CSUS Trustees Teaching Award and Murphy with the CSUS Trustees Research Award.
  • Dr. Chris Kukk was named a Fulbright Scholar, AY 2007-2008, Estonia.
  • Dr. Dan Goble played in the New York Philharmonic in North Korea, Spring 2008.
  • Dr. Paul Hines was honored as the WCSU Employee of the Semester.
  • Dr. Kevin Jay Isaacs was named the first recipient of the WCSU Teaching Excellence Award presented by the Provost.
  • Grant Scholarships were realized in the Schools during the AY 2007-2008 and were well received by the scholarly community.
  • Allocated six new tenure-track faculty with distinguished background.


  • WCSU partners with city to run Ives Center for the arts and sponsorship of Family Fair.
  • President’s Initiative Funds: Engage students in Main Street Danbury ethnic offerings; train WCSU students as math tutors in Danbury schools.
  • One Book One Community (Common Read): partnership with Danbury Library, Danbury Schools & WCSU.


  • Membership in Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
  • Collaborations with three institutions of higher education in India that are expected to enhance faculty and student exchanges and resource opportunities.
  • Sisters of the Academy hold symposium at WestConn that attracts nearly 100 African
    American doctoral recipients and candidates to campus.


  • Masters of Art in Secondary Education, approved Spring 2008.
  • Marketing students partner with Staples to research growth options for China and India.
  • Professors and students traveled to and studied in Switzerland, Spain, Ghana, Guatemala, and Greece.
  • Continue to succeed in securing national accreditation, such as,  for AACSB and NCATE.


  • "Common Read" as part of First Year Experience.
  • More effective Orientation - 900 students attended this spring.
  • A new Recreation Council supports recreation, intramurals, and club sports.
  • Nellie Mae Grant – Project Impact.
  • Increased retention rate reflects not only higher enrollment, but student satisfaction, progress, services & facilities.


  • Governor M. Jodi Rell announced bonding for architectural drawings of a new Visual and Performing Arts Instructional Center on the Westside campus.
  • New Scholarships: Dr. Mel Goldstein Meteorology Scholarship, Khalda Logan-Eaton
    Inspiration Scholarship.
  • Provide high quality programs while maintaining the cost of tuition.
