WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY
 BACCALAUREATE SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM

ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

LAST COMPLETED ON (August 2012, for AYs 10-11 and 11-12 data)

The WCSU Department of Social Work has evaluated student outcomes for 10 competency areas and 41 practice behaviors as specified by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) for Academic Years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. The data shown below indicates the percentages of our seniors who scored in the Competent to Highly Competent Ranges. All others fell within the Developing Competency Range whereas 0% of seniors fell in the Marginally Competent or Lacks Competency Range. For example, for Competency 1, Identify as a Professional Social Worker, in AY 2010-2011, 93% fell in the Competent to Highly Competent Ranges, 7% in the Developing Competency Range, and 0% in the Marginally Competent or Lacks Competency Range.

All Council on Social Work Education programs measure and report student learning outcomes.  Students are assessed on their mastery of the competencies that comprise the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education. These competencies are dimensions of social work practice that all social workers are expected to master during their professional training. A measurement benchmark is set by the social work programs for each competency. An assessment score at or above that benchmark is considered by the program to represent mastery of that particular competency.
