Health and Health Insurance
Please note, should you have a medical emergency that is life threatening, you should immediately call “911” for assistance.
As a student at WCSU, you and eligible for free or low cost services at the university’s Health Service, located in Litchfield Hall.
Health insurance is NECESSARY in the United States – and as a WCSU student, you will be charged for the health insurance policy in fall and spring semesters. Unlike many countries in the world, health care is not paid for by the government. The cost of care in the US is astronomical. For example, without insurance, the cost of visiting a hospital emergency room is more than $900. One night in a hospital (not including surgery) is more than $2500 per day.
Here is more information on the health insurance plan.

In the United States, it is very common for people to talk with a professional about their emotional and mental health. In our culture, we see this as a healthy and proactive way to resolve issues with stress, relationships and many other items that may distract us from living the most healthy and enjoyable life possible. In many cultures, counseling is very “taboo”. However, in the States it is the norm. Did you know that nearly all colleges and universities in the States have free, confidential counseling services for students? As a WCSU student, you are able to use the Counseling Center for free. Not only can they help with psychological counseling, they have testing for personality and career testing and a comprehensive library for students and faculty/staff. Please don’t be afraid to use this free service – no one will judge you for taking care of your mental health as well as your physical health.
