What is CARP?

Western Connecticut State University's Campus Alliance for Response and Prevention (CARP) of Interpersonal Violence is designed to provide a coordinated, caring and effective team response to survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and dating or domestic violence. The purpose of the Campus Alliance for Response and Prevention (CARP) is to assist all Western Connecticut State University students in the coordination of support and response to incidents of interpersonal violence on-campus and off-campus. CARP team members can provide a survivor with many supportive options and choices: including counseling, medical attention, judicial services, advocacy, referrals, and general information regarding interpersonal violence.

Should a survivor choose to file a police report, the University Police and Women's Center staff will assist her or him with the reporting process. We will strive to empower the survivor to make her or his own decisions by providing on- and off-campus resources, and then offer support as needed.

The Campus Alliance for Response and Prevention of Interpersonal Violence has been designated by the Division of Student Affairs to coordinate the efforts of various campus departments in order to provide a caring and effective response to members of the WCSU community who have been victimized. For information or to report a sexual assault case, students may contact any member of the team.

In cases of immediate danger or an emergency, call the University Police at 911.

You (or someone helping you) can call the confidential 24 hours hotlines at the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury:

Sexual Assault Hotline at (203) 731-5204

Domestic Violence Hotline at (203) 731-5204

A trained sexual assault or domestic violence counselor will help you through this process, both through phone counseling and in-person advocacy at the hospital or police station, including the university police station.
