WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY
OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
WHO WE ARE
At EHS we are dedicated to keeping our community healthy and safe. We support all educational activities, in the classroom, the laboratory and the studio, while minimizing our environmental impact.
We provide a wide variety of services including administration of life safety, fire notification and protection systems, management of hazardous materials and waste, evaluation of ergonomic inquiries, assessment of indoor air quality and industrial hygiene concerns and design and delivery of EHS education and training programs. Because of the nature of our business, we are also intimately involved with emergency management and response.
We share our knowledge and expertise not just with the students, faculty and staff that comprise our University community, but we also provide outreach programs to the local High Schools and Emergency Service providers.
WHAT'S NEW IN EHS?
Danbury Fire Department – Electric Vehicle Training
Last month, Danbury Fire Department (DFD) and Modzelewski's Recovery & Repair held a joint training exercise at Westside Parking Garage. DFD simulated an electric vehicle fire and practiced safely extinguishing and transporting said vehicles. Trainings such as this help WCSU prepare to keep our buildings and people safe in case of emergencies. It was an eye-opening reminder of the unique challenges associated with EVs when it comes to fire safety.
We appreciate the hard work DFD puts into protecting our campus and community everyday. We also thank those that may have been inconvenienced by the restrictions to the parking garage during this training exercise.
If you have any questions about fire safety at WCSU, please feel free to contact EHS.
