Cable Information
All students living in WestConn residence halls automatically receive cable TV in their rooms. Cable TV Service for WestConn is provided by Comcast. There is no need to sign up for anything unless the student(s) would like to include premium services.
Currently, WestConn offers a university-run television broadcast, WCSU-TV. WCSU-TV is comprised of two television channels which are broadcast to the university community. WCSU-TV provides students, faculty, and staff witha venue to air educational, informational, and entertainment programs to the university. Channel 79 airs university produced programming and Residence Life Cinema. Channel 80 airs information through the campus bulletin system. To learn more, please visit the WCSU-TV Homepage
If students experience problems with their cable they should contact Media Services first.
Basic telephone service for residence hall students includes emergency calling to 911 and unlimited calling to exchanges within the local calling area (as defined by SBC) as well as to "800" toll free numbers. Basic telephone service includes emergency, on-campus and local calling, as well as the following telephone features:
Call Waiting - Alerts you to an incoming call when you're on the phone. You can put the first call on hold and answer the second call.
Call Forwarding - Lets you forward all of your calls to another number on campus.
Data Privacy - Allows you to suspend Call Waiting on a call-by-call basis when using a modem
Conference (three-way calling) - Lets you talk with two people in different locations at the same time.
Speed Calling - Lets you program frequently called numbers for quick access.
Voice Mail – WCSU is offering voice mail to students living on campus. Each phone number has a voice mail box. Detailed instructions will be distributed to you when you arrive on campus.
Data Communications - Data communications capabilities are available which enable you to connect to an array of services such as Internet and the Library System. This service is administered by your campus data center. If you would like a computer connection in your room, please contact the Information Systems Department on your campus.
This information is included in the Student Guide to Campus Telecommunications Services which is distributed to all residence hall students at the beginning of the Fall semester and to new residence hall students at the beginning of the Spring semester. If you have not received your copy, or would like a new copy, you may download a copy now.
Also, as a note, WestConn no longer provides long distance calling services to students living in the residence halls. If they wish to make a long distance call from their phone in their room, they need to use a personal calling card or place an operator assisted call.
