Introduction
Technology changes quickly and Information Technology & Innovation (UC) is constantly exploring innovative ways to keep up with these changes in order to continue to build an effective and up-to-date information technology environment for the Western Connecticut State University community. This webpage is intended to help new and returning students further their knowledge about the technology available to them at WestConn. UC wants this site to be a comprehensive document that provides information that is useful to the university community. Your feedback and input are not only welcomed, but essential in order to make this possible.
UC provides general computing facilities on both of WestConn's campuses. The Westside Computer Center is located in the Westside classroom building in room 117 and the Midtown Computer Center is located in the main level of the Ruth Haas Library. These facilities are staffed with personnel who can assist students with their general computing needs. Students who require one-on-one instruction or more detailed assistance should visit the Student Technology Training Center (STTC), located on the Midtown campus in the Student Center in room 225. The goal of the STTC is to inform students, faculty, and staff about the fundamentals of computing at WestConn and the technologies available to them at the university. The focus is on the various workshops and tutorials offered, the individualized assistance provided, and the hardware and software available. The STTC prides itself in its ability to maintain a facility that is staffed with students who have interests in the field of training and computers.
Two 24-hour computing labs are also available at the University, one at the Westside campus, located in the Westside classroom building in room 247c, and another at Midtown, located in the Student Center in room 215. These labs are available to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays and university closings. They are not staffed with personnel, however, they are maintained daily.
UC offers all the above computing services at no charge to the members of the university community. It is required that any person wishing to utilize these resources must be aware of the policies and guidelines that govern the use of technology at WestConn.
