What is the commencement schedule?
Saturday, May 15, 10 a.m. – Ancell School of Business
Saturday, May 15, 3 p.m. – Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences
Sunday, May 16, 10 a.m. – School of Professional Studies & the School of Visual and Performing Arts
Each of these ceremonies will be combined events for both undergraduates and graduates of the respective school.
What time should I arrive for my commencement ceremony and where are we lining up?
Students should arrive no later than one hour prior to the start of their ceremony. Upon arrival, students should meet in the Feldman Arena of the O’Neill Center where they will line up.
What time should guests arrive?
For guests, the doors to the Westside Athletic Complex will open one hour prior to the start of the ceremony.
How long will the ceremony last?
The ceremony will run approximately 90 minutes.
Will my professor be at the ceremony?
Unfortunately, due to Covid guidelines and restrictions only one representative from each academic department will be present, the representative will be chosen by the faculty of the academic department.
Where will in-person commencement be held?
In-person commencement ceremonies will be hosted May 15-16 at the Westside Athletic Complex in Danbury, CT. We are choosing to host this event at the athletic facility to maximize distancing of guests and graduates.
Can I participate in Commencement?
Students must register with the Registrars’ Office (https://www.wcsu.edu/registrar/graduation-2/) to have their degree requirements audited. The Registrar’s Office will evaluate your application to ensure that degree requirements have been met. The list of eligible students will be sent to Event & Conference Management Office for inclusion.
How do I register to walk in this year’s ceremony?
Eligible graduates would receive an email from MarchingOrder to complete your profile online. This important step will help us generate the list of graduates and plan for your participation. Be sure to check your email for this message.
Will you pronounce my name correctly? Who is reading my name?
The best pronunciation comes directly from the source. MarchingOrder Say It Right lets graduates record their names via telephone. Graduates input a phone number and receive an automated phone call which prompts them to record their name with detailed instructions. All graduate names will be pre-recorded by a professional voice actor.
Will there be physical contact during the in-person ceremony?
We are working to make the commencement ceremonies as contactless as possible. We will be issuing e-tickets, socially distancing for graduates and guests, no hand shaking on stage, and no congregating in large crowds. More information about health and safety procedures may be released as we get closer to the ceremonies.
How many guests can I bring? Do guests need a ticket?
Graduates will receive 2 guest tickets. Graduates use MARCHINGORDER Assistant to reserve, print and email guest tickets. No additional tickets will be given to ensure distancing is maintained. Tickets are non-transferrable.
Tickets are required for entry into the Westside Athletic Complex.
What are the health and safety requirements for the commencement ceremonies?
As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, all in-person ceremonies will fully comply with all applicable local and state guidelines. All graduates, guests and staff are required to wear a mask, and are encouraged to maintain distancing at all times and wash their hands regularly. More information about health and safety procedures may be released as we get closer to the ceremonies.
Where do I park?
Parking will be free for graduates and guests at the Westside Campus. ADA parking will be available in the faculty lot in front of the Westside Athletic Complex, please display the state issued ADA parking hangtag for entry. WCSU will have staff on site to direct you to the available parking locations.
How do I check in day of ceremony?
Each graduate who completes their profile on MarchingOrder will receive a GradPass. Please check your WCSU student email for instructions on how to collect your GradPass. Your GradPass has a unique QR code that will be scanned at your Commencement ceremony before you cross the stage. Once scanned, your name will be announced, and your degree information will be displayed on the two large screens beside the stage.
If you haven’t checked your WCSU student email, you must register to claim your GradPass.
FOR BEST RESULTS, use Google Chrome to access the MarchingOrder website. Other browsers do not support the website as well and you may have problems accessing your GradPass.
Log in to https://wcsu.marchingorder.com/#/
Log in as a returning user and insert your WCSU email address and the password you set up to RSVP for Commencement.
Once on the MarchingOrder website you will see a link to print your GradPass
Print your GradPass at home or take a screenshot of the QR code to avoid loading it at check in.
Who do I contact if I can’t access MarchingOrder?
If you are having an issue logging on to MarchingOrder, contact EventConferenceManagement@wcsu.edu.
How will candidates be recognized in the ceremony?
Candidates will have their names called as they cross the stage and honored individually through many of the same commencement traditions with modification in the interest of health and safety. There will be no handshakes. Diploma covers will be placed on a table for pick up.
Is regalia required for the ceremony? How do I order regalia?
Yes, regalia is required for all graduates/candidates in attendance. Deadline to order was April 16, 2021. If you have not purchased your regalia, you will not be able to participate.
