Dear Graduating Students and Families,

Western Connecticut State University will be holding in-person commencement ceremonies this May. They will be outdoors at the Westside Athletic Complex on our Westside campus – rain or shine. Each graduating student will be able to have two guests in attendance and the ceremonies will be livestreamed so that other family members and friends may view the events virtually. Guest tickets are non-transferable.

What is the commencement schedule?

Saturday, May 15, 10 a.m. – Ancell School of Business

Saturday, May 15, 3 p.m. – Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences

Sunday, May 16, 10 a.m. – School of Professional Studies & the School of Visual and Performing Arts

Each of these ceremonies will be combined events for both undergraduates and graduates of the respective school.

Where will in-person commencement be held?

In-person commencement ceremonies will be hosted May 15-16 at the Westside Athletic Complex in Danbury, CT. We are choosing to host this event at athletic facility to maximize distancing of guests and graduates.

Can I participate in Commencement?

Students must register with the Registrars’ Office to have their degree requirements audited. The Registrar’s Office will evaluate your application to ensure that degree requirements have been met. The list of eligible students will be sent to Event & Conference Management Office for inclusion.

How do I register to walk in this year’s ceremony?

Eligible graduates would receive an email from MarchingOrder to complete your profile online.

Will you pronounce my name correctly? Who is reading my name?

The best pronunciation comes directly from the source. MarchingOrder Say It Right lets graduates record their names via telephone. Graduates input a phone number and receive an automated phone call which prompts them to record their name with detailed instructions. All graduate names will be pre-recorded by a professional voice actor.

Will there be physical contact during the in-person ceremony?

We are working to make the commencement ceremonies as contactless as possible. We will be issuing e-tickets, socially distancing for graduates and guests, no hand shaking on stage, and no congregating in large crowds. More information about health and safety procedures may be released as we get closer to the ceremonies.

How many guests can I bring? Do guests need a ticket?

Graduates will receive 2 guest tickets. Graduates use MARCHINGORDER Assistant to reserve, print and email guest tickets. No additional tickets will be given to ensure distancing is maintained. Tickets are non-transferrable.

Tickets are required for entry into the Westside Athletic Complex.

What are the health and safety requirements for the commencement ceremonies?

As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, all in-person ceremonies will fully comply with all applicable local and state guidelines. All graduates, guests and staff are required to have a mask, and are encouraged to maintain distancing at all times and wash their hands regularly. More information about health and safety procedures may be released as we get closer to the ceremonies.

Where do I park?

Parking will be free for graduates and guests at the Westside Campus. ADA parking will be available in the faculty lot in front of the Westside Athletic Complex.

How do I check in day of ceremony?

Each graduate who completes their profile on MarchingOrder will receive a GradPass. Please check your WCSU student email for instructions on how to collect your GradPass.  Your GradPass has a unique QR code that will be scanned at your Commencement ceremony before you cross the stage.  Once scanned, your name will be announced, and your degree information will be displayed on the two large screens beside the stage.

If you haven’t checked your WCSU student email, you must register to claim your GradPass.

FOR BEST RESULTS, use Google Chrome to access the MarchingOrder website. Other browsers do not support the website as well and you may have problems accessing your GradPass.
