Now, everyone has a reason to seek out the tunnel for a walk-through.
Visitors will see a new mural conceived and painted by art Professor Jack Tom with the help of four WestConn students.
“At 72 feet long and 8 feet high, the tunnel seemed perfect for a mural that would brighten the students’ experience of the space,” Tom said. Inspired by Western’s wolf mascot, Tom created a bold graphic image using overlapping silhouettes of wolves, ravens, and crows. The bright color palette creates an energetic, positive atmosphere reflecting both the spirit and diversity of the WestConn community.
The Facilities department provided paint and supplies, and Facilities staff cleaned and primed the tunnel walls in preparation for the mural. Students who helped Prof. Tom with the project included Ian Clifford (Painting/Illustration, Class of 2026), Anna Jordan (Painting, Class of 2026), Maren Dion (Illustration, Class of 2026), and Cayden J. Nadolny-Pallatto (Graphic Design, Class of 2026).
