DENIM DAY: Join The Center for Empowerment and Education from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Westside Campus Center Lower Lobby for Denim Day tabling in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)!
Write on denim jeans, provided by CEE, to take a stand against victim blaming, combat rape culture, and share supportive messages to survivors of domestic or sexual violence.
Denim Day asks us to make a social and fashion statement by wearing jeans on the last Wednesday in April as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who raped her remove them, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
