DOMESTIC VIOLENCE 101 – BACK TO BASICS: The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is promoting the following virtual event for Domestic Violence Awareness Month from National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV).

To kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2025, NRCDV will offer an introductory webinar describing the dynamics and common tactics that characterize domestic violence. The presenter will provide an overview of its root causes, as well as the scope and impact on individuals and society. Drawing connections to the theme for DVAM 2025, With Survivors, Always, this session will help new advocates, allied professionals, students, and the general public achieve a basic understanding of this complex issue and how they can be part of the solution.

About the Presenter:
Fatima Jayoma (she/her) is the Training and Technical Assistance Specialist at the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV). She brings over a decade of experience in the anti-violence movement. She started as a mobile multilingual advocate, where she supported Asian and Pacific Islander victims/survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence in Iowa. Later, she served as a prevention coordinator, where she developed community-based prevention programming in Iowa. Most recently, she worked as national training and technical assistance provider, focused on systems change and community collaboration approaches in rural communities. Fatima holds an MSW and a B.A. in Social Work and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Iowa. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, and thrifting.
