TANGO: PASIÓN Y CULTURA/ TANGO: PASSION AND CULTURE: Presentation by Dr. Makela Brizuela,  University of Southern California, Los Angeles. In this presentation, professor Brizuela will explore the origins and evolution of tango, a cultural phenomenon born as a fusion of African rhythms and European melodies and instruments in the Rio de la Plata region in present-day Argentina and Uruguay. Professor Brizuela holds her Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics from USC and is also a researcher, practitioner, instructor and choreographer of tango.
