Western to hold ‘Campus-to-Campus 5K’


DANBURY, CONN. — Join students, faculty and staff for a race across the city as Western Connecticut State University sponsors its “Campus-to-Campus 5K.”

On Sunday, Oct. 17, at 9 a.m., runners will leave the Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury and head to the Midtown campus, 181 White St. The 3.1-mile race heads to Lake Avenue, then onto West, Main and Liberty streets before heading down Patriot Drive and White Street. Walkers start immediately after runners at 9:05 a.m. Strollers are welcome.

Runners and walkers can register online at www.wcsu.edu.5k for $20 per entrant ($25 after Oct. 5). A New Balance technical shirt and race bag will be given to the first 200 pre-registered runners or walkers. Participation is free for Western students. A commemorative race T-shirt will be given to the first 100 pre-registered students. A $10 fee applies to students for the New Balance tech shirt.


Race day registration is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at the Westside campus. After the race, shuttle buses will transport participants back to the registration and parking area.


The race will be chip timed and prizes will awarded in the following divisions: Men’s Open: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Women’s Open: 1st, 2nd, 3rd; top Western student male/female; top Western employee male/female; top Western alumni male/female; and most creative use of Western colors (navy blue and copper).

Proceeds of the event benefit Western student fitness and wellness programs by purchasing fitness equipment, providing health seminars and sponsoring wellness activities on campus.
