2012 Western to host College Goal Sunday

DANBURY, CONN. — Forget football this weekend — it’s College Goal Sunday and Western Connecticut State University will be the place for every high school student planning for college.

From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, the WCSU Office of Student Financial Services will be in the Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. College-bound high school seniors and their families will receive assistance from financial aid professionals in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online.

The event is sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Professional Financial Aid Administrators. Western is one of 12 sites open throughout Connecticut this coming weekend. Each site will be able to assist students who speak Spanish and English. Information about the benefits of attending college, student support services, areas of study and different degree programs also will be available.

College Goal Sunday is a volunteer charitable effort to assist low-income families and those who are the first in their families to attend college. The FAFSA forms are required to qualify for college financial aid nationwide.

For more information, contact Melissa Stephens, associate director of student financial services, at (203) 837-8582.
