WestConn to host Ninth Annual Holiday Wine Tasting on Nov. 4

DANBURY, CONN. — Fine wines, great food and an exciting new venue in the Westside Campus Center will set the table for celebration at Western Connecticut State University’s Ninth Annual Holiday Wine Tasting benefit from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Future WestConn students from the Greater Danbury area, as well as present and future students in the university’s Ancell School of Business, will be the beneficiaries of the popular fundraiser to support the Caraluzzi Scholarship Endowment. Proceeds from the annual event and generous donations from the family of Anthony and Julia Caraluzzi have enabled the university to award scholarship grants totaling more than $52,000 to nearly 60 students since 2001.

This year the Holiday Wine Tasting will move to the elegant Grand Ballroom in the university’s new Westside Campus Center on the Westside campus, Lake Avenue Extension in Danbury. A donation of $50 per guest will cover the cost for sampling a diverse selection of domestic and international wines, complemented by an extensive buffet of foods prepared by area restaurants and caterers. Participants will enjoy live musical entertainment by a WCSU jazz quartet and have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction of goods and services.

The scholarship program has provided a model for the expanded collaboration in a broad range of fields between the university and the Greater Danbury community in recent years. The endowment was created by Anthony Caraluzzi, founder of Caraluzzi’s Food Markets in Bethel and Georgetown, to finance scholarship awards reflecting his family’s deep roots in the community and commitment to advancing business education. Grants are awarded annually to incoming WCSU freshmen who are graduates of Bethel High School and Immaculate High School in Danbury, and to WestConn juniors and seniors enrolled in the Ancell School of Business.

Distributors of Nutmeg Discount Liquors in Bethel will supply the wines for the tasting. The generous array of hors d’oeuvres and entrees served at the event will be provided by Caraluzzi’s Markets, Mr. Sushi in Bethel, La Zingara restaurant in Bethel and Sodexho catering service.

Reservations for the event are limited. To reserve tickets or request additional information, call the Office for Institutional Advancement at (203) 837-8832.
