2012 ‘Breakfast with Buddha’



DANBURY, CONN. —The Danbury Public Library, Western Connecticut State University, the Danbury Public Schools and the Wooster School will host an author presentation, book discussion and film screening in connection with the fifth annual “One Book, One Community” (OBOC).

This year’s community read, “Breakfast with Buddha” by Roland Merullo, compliments the upcoming visit of Nobel Peace Prize recipient, His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, to WCSU in October 2012. “Breakfast with Buddha” is a novel about a middle-aged publishing executive who treks through the Midwest with a berobed Mongolian monk learning about life from a new perspective. Copies of the book are available to borrow at the library.

The events are scheduled as follows:

Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 6:30 – 9 p.m. – film screening of “Seven Years in Tibet” in the Farioly Program Room of the Danbury Public Library, 170 Main St. in Danbury. The 1997 movie starring Brad Pitt tells the true story of Nazi soldier Heinrich Harrer’s escape from prison camp and ensuing journey to Tibet. There, Harrer, who died in 2006, tutored the young Dalai Lama and they shared a lifelong friendship. The Dalai Lama wrote the foreword to Harrer’s book on which the movie is based.

Saturday, Oct. 6, at 9:30 a.m. – a book discussion will be held at the Danbury library. It is free and open to the public, however registration is required.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. – public presentation by author Roland Merullo in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The event is free and open to the public.
