WestConn scholarship honors long-time educator
DANBURY, CONN. — Guido J. Tino, Jr. had a passion for living and teaching others how to aspire to their greatest achievements. Whether it was in the classroom or on the ball fields, his enthusiasm inspired the many lives he touched as an educator.
A scholarship in Tino’s memory has been established at Western Connecticut State University to help students who possess a similar passion for reaching out to others through teaching and community involvement.
Tino, a Sherman resident since 1971, died in November. He earned his bachelor’s degree from WestConn in 1964 and was an involved alumnus. A teacher for 36 years in New Fairfield and Danbury school systems, he was a long-time WestConn supporter and life-long volunteer.
A resident of Sherman since 1971, he founded the Sherman Soccer Club and the community garden near Colonial Field, where the club practiced and played. He was a firefighter and emergency medical technician with the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department.
Tino is survived by Kristine, his wife of 40 years, sons Guy and Garth, and five grandchildren.
