2013 Commencement Notice

To All 2014 Graduates:

First, let me say that you are almost in the home stretch toward graduation. Please know that the faculty and staff here at Western remain committed to helping you in any way we can to ensure you get to your finishing line.

Logistically, I would like to let you know about a change in the 2014 Commencement Ceremony that is made necessary by the refurbishing of the field within the Westside Athletic Complex (WAC), where Commencement has been held the past several years. Because the WAC will not be available, we will be holding the ceremony on the grass area adjacent to the student gravel parking lot on the Westside Campus. This is a return to the same general area where these ceremonies were held for many years before they were moved into the WAC.

Working with the Student Government Association (SGA), we had considered splitting the four schools and having two ceremonies in the O’Neill Center, but determined that it would be better for more students and their families if everyone were allowed to graduate together as per our Western tradition.

Additionally, the grass location is large enough to accommodate everyone who normally attends Commencement, and no seat tickets will have to be issued.

I look forward to seeing you on May 11 as we celebrate your graduation.
