WCSU 2016 – WCSU to host Best Darn Jazz Club

DANBURY, CONN. Western Connecticut State University will present the “Best Darn Jazz Club in Danbury” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, in the Colonial Corner inside the Student Center (formerly the downstairs café and snack bar) on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.

Best Darn Jazz Club will feature opening act, saxophonist Josh Walker, followed by featured act, The Recess Bureau.

Created in July 2015 by WCSU alumnus, bassist and band leader Jeff Moro, The Recess Bureau explores the possibilities of jazz improvisation with an array of grooves inspired by many genres of music. The collective currently holds 10 members and is constantly expanding. With musical influences from Snarky Puppy, A Tribe Called Quest, James Brown and Led Zeppelin, the band offers an eclectic blend of jazz, rock, funk and fusion.

According to Dean of Students Dr. Walter Cramer, the jazz club started as a way to showcase the student talent at WCSU while also “building bridges between the school and the community.

“The whole point initially was to create a place where we can have our students perform, then it expanded to alumni,” Cramer said. “There really isn’t another place in Danbury where you can see this.”

Complimentary snack food will be provided for attendees. There will also be a cash bar for those 21+.

Admission will be free for WCSU faculty, staff, students and alumni only. There is a $5 cover for the general public. For more information, contact Virginia Diaz at the Office of Student Affairs at (203) 837-9700 or at diazv@wcsu.edu.
