2015 WCSU to host ‘Accepted Student Day’
DANBURY, CONN. — Last year more than 380 families joined faculty and staff at Western Connecticut State University for “Accepted Student Day.” This year that number is expected to jump 30 percent as more and more students look to WCSU for a quality education.
On Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., accepted students and their families are welcomed to the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury, for the day to explore the campus, ask questions and see what the university has to offer. For prospective Honors Program students, there will be a brunch held in Warner Hall at 9 a.m. Program Director Dr. Chris Kukk will address students on what the Honors Program entails.
Of the nearly 380 students who came to the university last year to see if it was the right place for them, more than 80 percent ultimately enrolled. Since financial aid packages have not been awarded yet, many students still have not committed to any school, said WCSU Director of Admissions Jay Murray.
“Our goal is to get as many students as possible to join us at the event and learn as much as they can about what we offer,” Murray said.
Senior administrators, including the university president and provost, as well as deans and faculty representatives of every university department will be at the event. Following a welcome address, students are invited to listen to faculty presentations in their major of interest.
The afternoon will consist of student-to-student panels, where prospective students may question current students about campus life, and a “successful first-year panel” for parents to ask about housing, counseling, career services, security and meal plans. All activities will take place on the university’s Midtown campus and are open to accepted students and their families, only. The day will conclude with campus tours. Students accepted to the School of Visual and Performing Arts will be invited to drive to the Westside campus for a tour of the new Visual and Performing Arts Center and other campus facilities.
